The Romans pub - Southwick

Manor Hall road, Brighton BN42 4NG

09-11-2008

I love this pub. Every year it holds its own beer festival. Camra members also frequent this venue. It dates from the 1930’s. And classes itself as a typical estate pub. Families happily use this pub. The food is ok. I have eaten better pub food. The square plates annoyed me!
This pub likes its Real ale and keeps it well. There is also cider available. Usually 3 to purchase.
The pub caters for functions such has private parties and weddings.
There is live music n every two weeks. Quiz nights and Karoke can be found here.
The staff are very welcoming and has the feel of a family run venue.

The seaviews are not as good as the better placed hotels but hat shouldn’t put anyone off.

Seven of the 20 rooms have a sea view, now thats a selling point. The Grand balcony room is to die for! The 4 poster bed just screams Regency. The drapes just flow on the eye to welcome the sleeper into its arms. The room has original antiques as well!

Laundromat - Brighton

5 Powis Road, Brighton BN1 3HJ

09-11-2008

I bet someone in the 1960’s stated that the laundry would be a thing of the past n the turning of the next century. These public services are much used. It is not rare to see a laundry. One would think everyone could have their own washing machine in this age of technology.
Bedsit land is very much alive. Lots of bedsits are now poshly called studio flats! These homes, I use this term lightly, are small and cannot house a washing machine let alone swing a cat in!
So the laundry is very much alive and making a profit. And don’t expect them to have died out by the turn of this century. One trend that never dies is poverty and bad housing.
